# Payroll data

Payroll data covers the wages, employer taxes, and related liabilities your customers incur when paying their employees. Importing it lets Layer reflect payroll expense and the associated cash movement in your customers' books and reports.

## How payroll data gets into Layer

Layer ingests payroll through an integration with a payroll provider rather than a manual import. Once connected, payroll runs flow into Layer automatically and post to the appropriate payroll expense and liability accounts.

Layer integrates with the following payroll providers:

Establishing a connection links a Layer business to its company in the payroll provider and authorizes the integration. Visit the integration page of your chosen provider above for guidance on the setup process.
